American cartoonist (1912–1988) best known for his clever, macabre sense of humor. His most famous creation was the Addams Family. ALS signed “Chas Addams,” one page, 4.5 x 7.25, The New Yorker letterhead, January 31, 1985. Addams provides a brief synopsis of his career to an admirer. In full: “I had always, or since I was a pubert, wanted to draw for the New Yorker. I sold the first drawing when in art school—which I attended for one year & thus encouraged, became a free lancer.” In fine condition, with light creasing and a central horizontal mailing fold.
