Wife of Sam Sheppard, the Ohio doctor who was accused, tried and convicted of brutally killing his wife in 1954. His story of a ‘brushy haired intruder’ was not believed, and Sheppard served 10 years for a crime he steadfastly denied committing. Sheppard was eventually released from prison after an appeals court ruled he was denied fair trial due to heavy publicity. His story was later the basis for the television series and movie The Fugitive.
