Description

“It seems a long way back to those ‘basket leave’ days, and here I am trying to get another adjutant’s job again. I wonder if the Governor gives basket leaves”

TLS signed “Ronnie,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, October 5, 1965. Letter to Robert Martin. In part: “I appreciated, too, the ideas you gave me concerning issues, and, as you can well imagine, I’m in need of such information. It seems a long way back to those ‘basket leave’ days, and here I am trying to get another adjutant’s job again. I wonder if the Governor gives basket leaves.” In fine condition, with some scattered light creasing and toning. A basket leave is an informal procedure whereby an officer planning to be away from his assigned post or station on a weekend or holiday is permitted to submit to his commander a signed but otherwise blank leave form. If the officer returns to his assigned post or station on time, the leave form is destroyed and the officer is not charged for leave taken. If the return of the officer is delayed, the commander fills in and approves the leave form and the officer is charged for the appropriate number of days of leave. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. RRAuction COA.
