Description

On the throne a mere two days, King George III names a regimental lieutenant

King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1760 until his death in 1820. His reign was marked most notably by the loss of British control over the American colonies. Advancing mental illness rendered George unable to fulfill his official duties during the last decade of his life, during which time the Prince Regent, William IV, ruled in his stead. Vellum DS, signed “George R,” one page, 13.5 x 9.5, October 27, 1760. Only two days after becoming King of England, George appoints “Christopher Chambre, Gent…Lieutenant to that Company….in our Fifty-Third Regiment of Foot, Commanded by John Toovey, Esq.” The seal is missing. In very good condition, with intersecting horizontal and vertical folds, soiling and toning affecting the signature, and a square piece missing from the top right corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
