British-born actor (1924–1992) who was was offered the title role in David Copperfield by MGM. This film made him an overnight star and he went on to appear in such classics as Anna Karenina, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and Captains Courageous. After a tour of duty with the Air Force in World War II, his film career faded. He later remarked that the millions he had earned as a child had been spent largely on lawsuits, including the widely covered 1937 custody trial between his parents and his aunt. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in-person, as an 11-year-old, in fountain pen “To Saul, With love and best wishes from Freddie Bartholomew.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of February 15, 1935, the date the signature was acquired.
