Description

Mysterious likeness of Houdini’s contemporary and friend

One of the most renowned mediums and stage mentalists of the twentieth century (1851–1927) and a close friend of Harry Houdini. Scarce vintage matte-finish 4 x 5.5 photo by Baker Art Gallery of Columbus, Ohio, and affixed to its original 5 x 7 mount, signed in fountain pen, “Anna Eva Fay 1906.” In fine condition, with silvering to darker areas of image and background, some light spotting, and a few edge dings to mount.

A master at her craft, Fay possessed the ability to make people believe she could tap into the spirit world and make contact with the dearly departed. She also harnessed the ability to ‘see’ into people's minds and read their thoughts...making her one of the most famous and successful mentalists of her era. Harry Houdini, who shared an interest in the afterlife and once debunked Fay’s act as sheer trickery, later befriended her, with Fay sharing many of her secrets with the famed magician. The first signed image of Fay we have ever offered! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
