Meredith Willson

Composer, songwriter, conductor, and playwright (1902–1984) best known for writing the book, music and lyrics for the hit Broadway musical The Music Man, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1958. Three items: ALS, one page, dated March 8, declining an invitation to a stamp show. In part: “Sorry not to be able to attend. Regards, please to my fellow Iowans.” At the bottom, Wilson adds a two-bar AMQS and lyrics to ‘Iowa, It’s a Beautiful Name’; and two commemorative covers from the 1978 Iowa Stamp Show, each signed and inscribed in black felt tip by Wilson, adding two bars of music and lyrics to ‘Iowa, It’s a Beautiful Name.’ In fine overall condition.
