Description

“The ‘T’ in Donat is not silent!”

British film actor (1905–1958) who starred in The Count of Monte Cristo, The 39 Steps, King Vidor's The Citadel, and most memorably, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, for which he won an Academy Award. TLS, one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, January 8, 1934. Letter to two ladies. In part: “It is most thoughtful of you to take the trouble to let me know that you like my work and I much appreciate your encouragement. I hope I shall never give you cause for disappointment in the future. The ‘T’ in Donat is not silent!” In fine condition, with uniform toning, some scattered light soiling, and old tape remnants to lower right edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
