In full: “Remembering your services to me at Oxford, I would like to congratulate you and Mrs. Triner on your Golden Wedding celebrated on December 12th last. The Duchess joins me in wishing you both a very happy New Year.” Matted to an overall size of 8.75 x 10.5 In fine condition, with a bit of scattered mild toning.
The Chateau de la Croe is a castle located in Cap d'Antibes, a prestigious part of the French Riviera between Nice and Cannes. Edward leased the chateau in addition to a Paris mansion after his 1936 abdication as king of England. With a relationship that went back nearly 30 years, one wonders how much credit Chief Detective Inspector Trinder wanted to take for the royal’s tenure at Oxford. Entering the school in 1910, most biographers agreed that Edward was intellectually unprepared for the challenge and left Oxford after eight terms—without any academic credentials.
