Description

The ‘Man of a Thousand Faces’ signs a photo from his role in a 1926 silent classic

Popular American actor (1883–1930) whose versatility in such silent-era classics as The Phantom of the Opera and The Hunchback of Notre Dame earned him the moniker ‘Man of a Thousand Faces.’ Scarce vintage pearl-finish 8 x 10 double weight Ruth Harriet Louise MGM publicity photo of Chaney in Marine dress uniform as he appeared in the 1926 film Tell It to the Marines, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to cameraman Duncan MacPherson “To ‘Mack’ With very best wishes, Lon Chaney.” Notation on reverse of photo, presumably in MacPherson’s hand reads, “Shot from ‘Tell it to the Marines’ Given to me in 1928 during ‘West of Zanzibar’ my first picture with the master.” In very good condition, with overall crazing to finish, and a few surface chips to right edge.. Uncommon! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
