ALS signed “Dick Nixon,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, June 12, 1978. Letter to Albert B. Hermann, the outgoing head of the Republican National Committee. In full: “As you retire from your post at the RNC I want to express my personal appreciation for years of dedicated service to our party. We have been through many campaigns together and I have always considered you to be one of the very best ‘pros’ in the political arena. Pat joins me in sending our warmest regards.” In fine condition, with a thin strip of toning to right edge.
Hermann was a fixture in Nixon’s political life for a number of years, serving as executive director of the Republican National Committee during Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration (in which Nixon served as vice president), as well as Nixon’s own presidential administration. As head of the GOP’s national committee, the “pro’s” efforts and “dedicated service” were instrumental in getting out the vote for the Eisenhower-Nixon ticket and the latter’s return to Washington politics in 1968. Four years before Hermann stepped down from his position, he also watched as President Nixon resigned the office he had sought for so many years.
