TLS as president signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, July 27, 1912. President Taft writes to Erastus Brainerd in Seattle, Washington. In full: “I have yours of the 22d instant relative to the judgeship and I have read it with much interest. I am as glad to have your judgment as to Harold Preston’s qualifications for the place as I am to know that you are ready and willing to help me in the campaign. I appreciate both.” Taft has added the postscript after his signature: “What would you say to the reappointment of Donworth?” In very good condition, with scattered light creases, wrinkling, a uniform shade of toning, light haloing to the signature and postscript, and scattered soiling.
