"I consider it not a duty but an honor to pay my respects to one who had been such a loyal friend and ally of the United States for over thirty years"

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 9.75, personal letterhead, August 28, 1980. Signed at the conclusion by Nixon who has also added a greeting at the top. Nixon writes Simon Vaughan regarding attending the funeral of the Shah of Iran. In full: “Your letter with regard to my attending the Shah’s funeral was most thoughtful and deeply appreciated. I consider it not a duty but an honor to pay my respects to one who had been such a loyal friend and ally of the United States for over thirty years.” In fine condition, with horizontal mailing folds touching his signature and greeting, and a speck of soiling at the top of the page. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
