Football coach (1913–1987) who is best remembered for his 28-year tenure at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio from 1951–1978. Despite his great achievements at Ohio State, Hayes' coaching career ended ignominiously when he was fired after striking an opposing player during the 1978 Gator Bowl.
