Description

"I want to thank you for your kind offer of your service in Governor Smith's campaign"

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 11, 1924. Letter to Lindley M. Keasbey. In part: “I am sorry to have been so long in answering your letter, but in the flood of urgent correspondence that could not be put aside your letter was for the moment held up…I want to thank you for your kind offer of your service in Governor Smith’s campaign. When he is nominated, I shall certainly remember this offer.”Scattered mild toning, a bit of trivial foxing, and a rusty paperclip mark to top, otherwise fine condition. Keasbey taught at the University of Texas for many years and was made head of the Department of Institutional History after being removed from the Department of Government due to criticism that his political views were too radical. In 1917 he helped organize the People's Council of America, an organization that opposed the entry of the United States into World War I. The board of regents protested Professor Keasbey's political activities and fired him when he refused to defend his position before them. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
