One of the most popular actresses of the silent film era (1906–1984), she became the first three-time Academy Award winner for Best Actress for Seventh Heaven (1927), Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) and Street Angel (1928). This was the only occasion on which an actress has won for multiple roles. This rule would be changed three years later. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 Fox Pictures publicity photo, signed and inscribed in-person in fountain pen “To Saul, Best wishes from Janet Gaynor.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of January 24, 1935, the date the signature was acquired.
