German actress (born in 1910) was the first woman to win two Academy Awards, and the first person to win them consecutively for The Great Ziegfeld and The Good Earth. Vintage pearl-finish 8 x 10 double weight Hurrell MGM publicity photo of Rainier for her upcoming role in The Good Earth, signed in-person in fountain pen. Reverse of photo bears collector’s date notation of August 19, 1950, the date the signature was acquired. Promotional caption affixed to reverse reads, in part: “Luise Rainer…who is portraying O-Lan opposite Paul Muni in Irving G. Thalberg’s ‘The Good Earth.’” In fine condition, with a few light corner tip creases, a bit of light border soiling, and light surface rubbing. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
