American comic actor (1895–1967). Fittingly born a Leo in New York City, he is best remembered today for his role as the Cowardly Lion (and the farm worker Zeke) in the classic 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, but known during his life for a career in burlesque, vaudeville, and Broadway. Very nice and early vintage glossy 8 x 10 MGM publicity photo, signed and inscribed in-person in fountain pen “To ‘Saul’ Sincerely, Bert Lahr.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of November 14, 1934, the date the signature was acquired. In fine condition, with a bit of light rippling to emulsion, a bit of scattered light toning, and a few light surface impressions to facial area. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
