Description

The Agony and the Ecstasy author offers advice to an aspiring writer "I would suggest that you finish at least half your book in good clean manuscript"

TLS, one page, 7.75 x 11, personal letterhead, March 11, 1968. Letter to an aspiring author. In part: “For an established author, or one who already had a couple of books published by a particular publishing house, he or she need only submit a chapter and an outline and the publisher then gets an excellent idea and can accept from that. However the reverse is generally true with publishers when the know nothing about an author…I would suggest that you finish at least half your book in good clean manuscript…Publishers of course insist that a manuscript should be submitted to only one publisher at a time. They do not like to think that they will read something and accept it only to find out that another publisher has accepted it the day before.” In fine condition, with a few light edge and corner creases.
