Description

Bud Powell

Highly respected and influential American jazz pianist (1924–1966) who was a pioneer in the development of the bebop style. Beginning in the late 1950s, Powell's musical powers suffered with his worsening schizophrenia and the onset of tuberculosis, and, after living in Paris for several years, he died in a New York hospital at the age of 41. Scarce souvenir program from the Fifth International Jazz Festival in Sanremo, Italy, 11.75 x 5.5, late 1950s–early 1960s, signed in ballpoint near his interior photo, "Bud Powell." The program has also been signed elsewhere by Max Roach, Oscar Pettiford, and one other. Mild rubbing and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
