Description

The Mercury Seven beautifully, and formally, sign a first edition of their story

Signed book: The Astronauts. First edition, first printing. NY: E. P. Dutton and Co., 1960. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.5 x 8.25, 192 pages. Inscribed at the top in blue ballpoint, "To Maurice Garger with best wishes from the Mercury Astronauts," and signed underneath in ink and ballpoint, "Leroy G. Cooper, Jr.," "Alan B. Shepard, Jr.," "Virgil I. Grissom," "Donald K. Slayton," "John H. Glenn, Jr.," "M. Scott Carpenter," and "Walter W. Schirra." A uniform shade of mild toning to signed page, with a few heavier spots well away from signature, and some damp staining to top right edge, owner's bookplate affixed to inside front cover, light staining to top and fore edges, and a bit of light wear to joints, otherwise fine condition. Dustjacket has clipped inside corners, some scattered light toning and creasing, as well as a bit of minor paper loss along spine. An exceptionally neat and crisply-penned complete set of Mercury signatures you will likely ever see, bearing the astronauts less common "formal" variety of signatures. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
