Description

"I have formed the habit of foregoing the evening meal almost entirely, but I am going to accept your invitation with much pleasure"

TLS signed "R. E. Byrd," one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 5, 1991. Byrd writes Parke R. Kolbe at the Polytechnic Institute in New York. In part: "I have formed the habit of foregoing the evening meal almost entirely, but I am going to accept your invitation with much pleasure. Not knowing about your dinner I made some plans which will make me a half-hour late. When I see you I will explain. I know you will forgive me for being a little late. When I arrive I will simply slip in quietly to my place…I am awfully sorry to learn that General Rees is confined in Walter Reed Hospital. I certainly wish him a most successful operation and a speedy recovery." In fine condition, with light creases and a few spots of toning. RRAuction COA.
