One of the earliest bare-knuckle champs

Heavyweight champion of England (1783-1863), one of the earliest champions in the history of boxing, later a member of British Parliment. Free franked address panel, 5.5 x 3, addressed in another hand to "Stephen Aspney, His Grace the Duke of Beauforts, Badminster, Gloucestershire," and dated at the top, "Pontefract, September Twenty Eight 1835," and franked in the lower left corner, "J. Gully." In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered toning, some lightly affecting signature, trimmed edges, and paper loss to top corner tips. Uncommon in any form.
