Description

"Just like you to propose an ovation for your friend, but I do not wish to undergo the ordeal"

TLS, one page, 8.25 x 10.75, personal letterhead, January 19, 1911. Carnegie declines an invitation from General Stewart Woodford. In full: 'Just like you to propose an ovation for your friend, but I do not wish to undergo the ordeal. I have so many invitations from so many cities which I have resolutely declined. This morning both Philadelphia and Baltimore had to be declined, and the New York Peace Society was first to urge me to accept a dinner here, and this I declined; so that now it would be very discourteous to accept your tempting proposal, but I take the will for the deed, and with renewed thanks as…always yours.' In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, small tear to top edge, uniform shade of mild toning, a bit heavier to bottom. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
