Description

Citing an historically 'difficult hour,' Ben-Gurion writes of a 1955 visit by Burma's prime minister

TLS in Hebrew, one page, 6 x 8, September 1955. Letter to Prime Minister Moshe Sharett. In part, 'I was very glad to hear along all of Israel, and the visit of Prime Minister of Burma U Nu, the importance of the coming visit are on two issues. The first issue is the importance of the communication and social relations of the peace seeking nations of the Far East. The second issue is the importance of the connections between Israel in its difficult hour.' In fine condition, with punch holes to right edge, pencil notation to bottom and expected folds. A ‘difficult hour’ indeed, as Egypt’s Nasser negotiated the famous arms agreement with Czechoslovakia in September 1955, an agreement which marked the Soviet Union's first great breakthrough in its effort to undermine Western influence in the Middle East. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
