Description

Ruth and 11 members of the Boston Braves, including Ben Cantwell and the Hall's only Rabbit, sign for a young fan

Vintage fountain pen signature, 'Babe Ruth,' on a light green 6 x 4.5 album page, notated in a collector’s hand, 'Aug. 12, 1934.' Page is still housed in its original 6.5 x 4.75 autograph album. Five earlier pages in the album are signed in pencil by 10 members of the 1933 Boston Braves. Signers are: Ed Brandt, Ben Cantwell, ‘Huck’ Betts, Frank Hogan (2), Leo Mangun, Frank Housey, Rabbit Maranville, Ben Cantwell, Bob Smith, and Al Spohrer. On the reverse of the Spohrer signature is a clubhouse version of ‘Duffy’ Lewis’ signature. In fine condition. According to the information provided, the album was owned by a 13 year-old girl from Maine, who took the train to Boston to attend a game in 1933. The album was passed through the dugout, where the Braves’ signatures were obtained. The following year, she again travelled to Boston to see Ruth’s Yankees take on the Red Sox, where she acquired his signature. Ruth’s signature is the final name in the album, with the remainder of the pages blank. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
