Trailblazing filmmaker (1875–1948) who directed a number of important early classics, including Intolerance (1916) and the iconic (and still-controversial) Birth of a Nation (1915). His innovative use of the fledgling medium resulted in a repertoire and vocabulary of film technique that remains influential to this day. Original signed ink-and-colored sketch of Griffith on a 9 x 12.5 sheet. Boldly signed on a blank area along the bottom, “Sincerely, D. W. Griffith.” In very good condition, with creasing (touching the start of Griffith’s name), a few tiny spots of staining, paper clip impression at the top edge, cut bottom corners, and an irregular block of heavy toning at the top left corner.
