Longtime owner of the Chicago White Sox, he signed the first black player in the American League. An unabashed promoter, he was responsible for the exploding scoreboard at Comiskey Park in Chicago, and in 1952 he sent a midget, Eddie Gaedel, to bat in a game for the Browns. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Chicago White Sox letterhead, June 4, 1976. Letter to a fan. In part: 'I received…the cassette…Yes, I sure do remember Harry Caray’s birthday out at Pete Vonachen’s house on Longboat Key. We had a real nice evening, didn’t we? It’s nice to know you are still playing it for the White Sox fans in Sarasota. I hope we’ll get a chance to hear you sing it again during next spring training in Sarasota.' In very good condition, with scattered toning and foxing. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
