Scarce TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, no date [circa 1931–1932]. Lugosi writes to theater editor Louise Mace at the Springfield [Massachusetts] Republican. In full: “It gives me great pleasure to write you a letter and thank you for that photograph you inserted in the Springfield Sunday Republican. It is always with a sense of gratification that I go through your section in the Republican as Teddy McDonald sends it on to me. I just know that you enjoyed ‘Dracula’ and I know that you will certainly get a great thrill out of watching me work in ‘Murders in the Rue Morgue.’” Intersecting mailing folds lightly affecting signature, light wrinkling and handling wear, subtle toning to edges, and faint adhesive traces and spots of skinning to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an original 1 x 1 swatch of one of Dracula’s capes. Cape is originally from the collection of science fiction icon Forrest Ackerman. Mounted with a color paperstock composite photo and a small plaque, to an overall size of 11.75 x 20. Lugosi letters with content related to his most famous role are of the greatest scarcity.
