Description

Rockefeller and Flagler endorse the transfer of 10 shares of stock

John D. Rockefeller (1839–1937) entered the oil industry at the age of 24 and worked ruthlessly to unify it into the powerful Standard Oil Trust. Henry Flagler (1830–1913), a real estate and railroad entrepreneur, set out to make Florida the ‘Newport of the South’ by providing extensive rail access and grand hotels to lure wealthy vacationers. Engraved DS, one page both sides, 11.25 x 7.75, December 22, 1883. A green stock certificate, featuring a vignette of the US Capitol, for 10 shares of the Standard Oil Trust, issued to Mrs. Fannie M. Freeman, signed “J. D. Rockefeller” as president and “H. M. Flagler” as secretary. The transfer stub remains affixed at left. Several vertical folds, a couple lightly affecting single letters of signature, embossed machine cancellation over Flagler’s signature and lightly affecting bottom of Rockefeller’s, cancellation stamp to top left, and several stamps and notations to reverse, otherwise fine condition. One of American business’s most recognizable company names matched with two business tycoons. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
