Description

Prominent American politician (1782–1850) who served as vice president under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson and later wielded great power and influence in the Senate as a champion of Southern causes, including slavery. ALS, one page, 8 x 9.75, March 30, 1822. Letter written to Congressman Jonathan Russell of Massachusetts. In full: “I received your note of yesterday in due reason. On examining the candidates from Massachusetts, it was found that only one one of those you recommended will be appointed. Mr. Daniels, standing first on your list was selected. His appointment is herewith enclosed with the request that you will give it its proper direction.” In fine condition, with light toning to edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
