Large and crisp ink signatures, “Go: Washington,” as president, and “Th: Jefferson,” as secretary of state, on an off-white 4 x 3 portion taken from a larger document. Written between the signatures, in a secretarial hand is “By the President.” Signatures are beautifully double cloth matted and framed with color portraits of Washington and Jefferson and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 33.75 x 18. In fine condition, with light intersecting folds, a couple lightly touching and through signatures, and a couple spots of trivial toning. While documents signed by both become available from time to time, amazingly, in the past 40 years, only four Washington/Jefferson signed slips have appeared at major public auctions. Oversized.
