French-American traveler and anthropologist (1835–1903) best known as the first modern outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas and the Pygmy people of central Africa. ANS, one page, 8.5 x 6.5, June 17, 1901. De Chaillu writes his “dear friend Herbert Allan Boas.” In part: “With kind love. I wish you could go…with me.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds (separations along some of them), edge chipping, torn upper right corner, heavy toning on three edges.
