Description

Lennon signs a check in 1976, the year he won the right to permanent American residency

Bank check, 7.5 x 3.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Lennon, payable to Moore House Secretaries for £242, January 9, 1976. Matted against a 1982 ‘John Lennon Collection’ poster to an overall size of 28 x 41. In very good to fine condition, with file holes and several staple holes at upper left, a few mild wrinkles, vertical fold touching first letter, a few tiny water spots to signature, and ink a shade light but clear and distinct. Accompanied by a 1994 letter of authenticity from Frank Caiazzo. A fine example in the midst of Lennon’s five year music hiatus, and from the year he finally obtained official government approval to remain in the US as a permanent resident after a protracted legal battle sparked by the musician’s ‘subversive’ activities during the Nixon administration. Oversized. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
