Two items: ANS, one page, 5 x 8, no date, on the reverse of an 1879 letter sent to him as president regarding the appointment of a lieutenant. Hayes has written, “Please give this attention—RBH”; and an Executive Mansion envelope, 6 x 3.25, addressed by Hayes: “Hon. Geo. M. McCrary, War, from the President.” In fine condition, with creasing and old tape repair to the page, not affecting Hayes’ writing, with the envelope rating very good with scattered wrinkling, a vertical stain, and a rough patch of soiling touching the “P” in “President.” Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
