Description

“Please forgive my silence. I feel as if I am drowning in weariness and work”

ALS in French, one page both sides, 8.25 x 10.5, January 29, 1933. Letter to Mr. Bartlett. In part: “Please don’t think too badly of me. Hundreds of letters have lain unanswered…because I have not the energy to keep up with my correspondence. Please forgive my silence. I feel as if I am drowning in weariness and work…How good of you, to prepare the way for me in America, for conferences and concerts. At present I am so involved in working on this book that I cannot plan to make the trip…When I can, I will write you one or two pages on the problems of leading a truly Christian life in this day and age. For the time being, I am utterly exhausted. I have been suffering from a real attack of tiredness in the past few months…My energies are insufficient for all that I should be doing.” Central horizontal and vertical fold, with a couple small tape reinforcements to reverse of horizontal fold, a few creases, stamp to top right corner, and a few spots of light foxing, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
