Description

Bopper’s handwritten lyrics recovered from his briefcase which survived the deadly 1959 plane crash

Unsigned, and possibly unpublished, handwritten lyrics for ‘Wishes,’ on a 3.75 x 7 off-white lined sheet of notebook paper, taken from the Bopper’s notebook which was found in his briefcase at the site of his plane crash. The Bopper writes 16 lines of lyrics, beginning “If wishes were horses, Then beggars would ride. If I had my wish, You’d be by my side. If wishes were gold, then the poor man would be, as rich as I am when you are with me.” Accompanied by a framed (without glass) 2001 letter of provenance from J. P. Richardson, Jr. attesting to the lyrics, stating the sheet was in fact recovered from the wreckage of the plane crash that took his father’s life. In fine condition. The ‘Big Bopper’ is scarce in any form, particularly in this length. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
