Description

Training for his 1965 Gemini mission, White asks forgiveness for his tardy reply: “The last several weeks have been very busy ones for me”

Astronaut (1930–1967) who was the first American to walk in space and who died in the flash fire that killed the entire Apollo 1 crew. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, April 26, 1965. White contacts a New York City advertising manager. In full: “Thank you very much for sending the sample photograph album which was so nicely personalized. It was just what I was looking for and I would like to purchase some additional albums and fillers. I would like for you to send one tan album and one black one, also six extra sets of acetate protectors. I am enclosing a check for $17, and please bill me for the additional protectors and any other expenses which I might have incurred. I am glad to provide the photograph which you requested. Thank you for your patience as the last several weeks have been very busy ones for me.” He has added a handwritten postscript: “Would it be possible to have the personal imprinting you did on the first albums on these also. The Flight of Gemini IV. Major Edward H. White II. NASA Astronaut.” In fine condition, with a few creases at the bottom right corner and staple hole at the top left. Great content as the excited astronaut seeks mementos from his rendezvous with history. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
