On January 16, 1942, the plane in which Lombard was traveling en route to a war bond rally crashed into Mount Potosi near Las Vegas, killing all 22 aboard. Vintage matte-finish 8.5 x 11 photo by Robert Coburn, taken during her last 1941 RKO photo session, signed and inscribed in green fountain pen “To Brower from Carole.” In fine condition, with trimmed edges, signature and inscription a shade or two light, but completely legible, and a couple trivial edge creases.
