Description

Ruth trades his 54-ounce bat for a No. 3 wood

Casual vintage matte-finish 9.5 x 8 photo of Ruth posing on a golf course, his arm around a fellow golfer, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To my good friend Joe, Sincerely, Babe Ruth.” Also signed in the lower right “Me too, Jack Weir.” Photo is affixed to an identical size board. Lightly trimmed edges, a bit of light surface loss to left edge, and some scattered light soiling to background, otherwise fine condition.

Ruth was among the participants in a 1936 Long Island Golf Association’s pro-amateur tournament held at the St. Albans Golf Club, along with Mr. Weir, who is likely the gentleman being warmly embraced by the Home Run King. “Joe,” it can be surmised, was one of Ruth’s many new friends he met on the course and was presented with this signed image. Though all smiles, Ruth was less-than-impressed with his performance on the green and did not turn in his individual score—only saying that his game was ‘terrible.’ A unique and casual pose from the always jovial Hall of Famer. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
