Description

As the ‘Battling Bogarts’ visit Africa during World War II, Humphrey signs “from the Filthy Five”

Vintage glossy 4 x 5 photo of Bogart and his wife Mayo taken in 1943 during their USO tour of North Africa, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Joe of the fighting 99, from the Filthy Five, Humphrey Bogart.” In very good condition, with scattered creases and surface marks, some lightly affecting signature and inscription. During parts of 1943 and 1944, Bogart and his wife travelled in support of the USO and War Bonds, making several trips to Italy and Africa, including Casablanca. The couple, sometimes affectionate onstage and off, were also remembered for their offstage fights. Apparently, this image was captured during a happier time on the arduous tour. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
