“I am to lecture in West Chester, Pa. in January 26th”

Author, suffragette, dramatist, poet, and biographer (1819–1910), best remembered as the lyricist of ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic.’ ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.75 x 6, September 27, 1899. Howe writes from South Portsmouth, Rhode Island to Mrs. Harvey. In part: “I accept the terms proposed in your letter…to wit, thirty dollars and traveling expenses. I am to lecture in West Chester, Pa. in January 26th, and could visit you either just before or just after fulfilling this engagement…. I am not sure of being able to reach you on Jan 27th in time for a lecture, and perhaps you would not wish me to give mine on Saturday evening. Please let me hear from you regarding this….” Mild handling wear and soiling with a tiny spot or two, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
