Description

Arbitrator of the diamond

Baseball Hall of Famer (1922-1982). Considered the model umpire of the post-war era, Chylak was a skillful arbiter who earned the respect of players and managers alike during his 25-year major league career. Rare glossy 8 x 10 photo of Chylak in the middle of a game holding his chest protector, signed and inscribed in black felt tip “To Jim, Best wishes, Nestor Chylak, Jr., A.L. Ump.” Faded remnants of Chylak’s unsuccessful light green felt tip first attempt at a signature and inscription, with Chylak signing over the attempt, and some scattered light creases, otherwise fine condition. Uncommon in any form. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
