Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island (1727–1820). ADS, one page, 7.75 x 6.25, no date but circa 1783. Financial document written out by Ellery reads, in part: "For and in consideration of the sum of which William Ellery at the ensealing hereof endorses on a promissory note which I gave him for one hundred and seventy seven pounds…and by these present, do bargain…and deliver unto the said William Ellery." Two vertical folds, spot of toning to top right, and chips to bottom edge, otherwise fine condition. A crisply-penned and well-preserved example.
