Oliver Ames

President of Union Pacific Railroad, the 35th governor of Massachusetts, and a congressman impeached in the Credit Mobilier scandal. DS, signed “Oliver Ames,” three pages both sides, 8 x 12.5, July 10, 1871. Deed for the sale of a tract of land in Salisbury, Massachusetts, by Ames to the Housatonic Railroad Company. In part: “I, Oliver Ames of North Easton and Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the consideration of Seventy five thousand dollars recived to my full satisfaction of the Housatonic Rail Road Company a Body Politic and corporate located and doing business in the Counties of Fairfield and Litchfield in the State of Connecticut do grant, bargain sell and confirm unto the said…company…all those certain tracts of Land, Real Estate, Forges, Buildings, Water powers and Privileges.” Eleven revenue stamps on the reverse. In very good condition, with separations along each fold, old tape reinforcement along the edges to reinforce the folds, and moderate soiling. RRAuction COA.
