Union general and onetime commander of the Army of the Potomac (1824–1881); the distinctive whiskers he sported gave rise to the word 'sideburns.' Partly-printed DS, signed "A. E. Burnside," one page, 10.75 x 3.5, August 20, 1870. Stock transfer certificate, for one share of capital stock of the Indianapolis and Vincennes Railroad Company issued to D. S. Gray of Columbus, Ohio, and signed at the bottom in black ink, as the company's president. In fine condition, with very light handling wear. Interesting piece of railroad history.
