Available to US bidders only. Reusable heat shield tile, unflown, designed for a space shuttle flight to protect the spacecraft as it returned to Earth. The tile measures approximately 2.25 x 2.25 x 1.25 and is affixed to a clear plastic base under which is affixed a descriptive note. Nearly as light as a feather yet designed to protect the shuttle fleet from the heat that reached as high as 2,300 °F during re-entry. Sadly a loss of some of the tiles similar to this were blamed for the destruction of the Space Shuttle Columbia during its 2003 re-entry. RRAuction COA.
