Description

The astronaut who two years earlier became the second man on the moon is transferred from NASA headquarters in Houston

DS, signed “Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr.,” two pages, 8.5 x 11, January 13, 1971. Reassignment papers informing Aldrin he is being transferred from the 1st USAF Acty Squadron at NASA in Houston to the Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The transfer is to go into effect in June. Filled out in another hand and signed on the reverse of the first page in black ballpoint by Aldrin. In fine condition, with a couple small office notations.

Although he never returned to space, Aldrin continued his association with NASA while serving as an Air Force colonel. This order, which sent Aldrin from the NASA hub in Texas to Edwards, the site of countless record-breaking flights. The transfer would be one of his last, as Aldrin retired from the service in 1972. Fabulous document ordering a moonwalker on one of his final ‘missions.’ Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
