American suffragist and peace activist (1859–1947) who was one of the leading forces behind the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920, ensuring women the right to vote. TLS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, personal letterhead, December 22, 1924. Letter declining an invitation. In part: “At this time I do not think it is possible for me to come to you in the month of March…as I have some big tasks to complete which must not be set aside for anything, no matter how important.” In fine condition, with some scattered light creases and toning.
