Liston applies for a California boxing license as he prepares to return to the ring

DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, July 7, 1967. California State Athletic Commission informational check list for license applicants, concerning photos, fingerprints, a chest x-ray, and physical and eye examinations. Bottom portion has a statement regarding mouthpieces stating “A boxer will not be permitted to box without a custom-made, individually-fitted mouthpiece.” Signed at the conclusion of the statement by Liston. Document is also signed by the two doctors. Central vertical fold, punch holes to top edge, and some light wrinkles and creases, otherwise fine condition. Liston would take a year off after his second loss to Muhammad Ali, fighting four times in Sweden in 1966–67, fighting again in California on May 23, 1968, beating Billy Joiner at the Olympic Auditorium.
